ASSIGNMENT 1

Draw an E-R diagram for the following situation (state any assumptions you believe you have to make in order to develop the complete diagram): You are asked to create an entity relationship (ER) diagram as part of an enterprise data model for an online bookseller.
Nile.com wants to create a database that will keep track of all aspects of its bookselling business as it is described above, including its books, book inventories, suppliers, customers, customer wish lists, customer orders, customer shipments, employees and shipping companies. (DO not use any other entity!). Specifically Nile.com wants to use this database to produce reports such as order summaries, sales revenues and purchase cost estimates, shipping and processing effectiveness. In order to help this task, please do the following:
1. Draw a detailed E-R diagram for Nile.com’s enterprise data model. Make sure you show the minimum and maximum cardinalities on your E-R diagram (state your assumptions clearly on a separate paper if you believe you need to make assumptions to complete your E-R diagram).
2. Show all the relationships between (among) your entities. You should state relationship names on your E-R diagram only in one direction.
3. Show all the attributes that you think an online bookseller would need for each of the entities and/or relationships you create on your E-R diagram. Don’t forget to designate your identifiers.
4. Please make sure your E-R diagram is legible. You are required to do the ER diagram on a computer. You can use any program of your choice. I suggest that you use Microsoft World and its drawing tools.
6. Get in touch with your group members through email or any other group communications tools available in eLearning. It is your responsibility to contact your group members in a timely manner to work on this assignment as a group. If your group completes the assignment without you, they can choose not to include your name in the assignment and you will be required to do the assignment alone and submit your own copy. No excuses!
7. The purpose of this assignment is to make you think about data requirements for Niles.com. Keep in mind that there is no single correct solution.
